Looking. Constantly looking. Sometimes you know it's there but it just doesn't show itself. That's when perseverence kicks in.
On this morning, tiptoing through a relatively unknown section of Redwoods near the California-Oregon border, I knew it was here somewhere. The battle of sunshine and fog was distractingly interesting. Distracting because there was so much going on all around me. This is when I know I have to slow down. Breathe. Look critically. There's good all over the place but I'm looking for great. As I ambled, sensitive to everything, I checked back behind from whence I'd come and there it was. A crack in the fabric of space and time, spectacular rays of light were stabbing through a slit formed by two trees nearly aligned. Don't give up. It's there somewhere.
